Who would have ever thought that I'd start off in Chicago as a real estate and family lawyer, then we would pack up and move to Indiana, where I would focus on family mediation and spending more time with my family. Then, seven years later, we would move to Europe to give our family more opportunities to see the world. Then one day, I would pick up a camera and build a humongous collection of family photos – and just one and a half years later, I'd be spending my time capturing other families! One thing that's pretty awesome is that my life has always centered around family, either mine or someone else's.
People always ask me if I miss family law. I tell them that I don't have a chance to miss it because I continue to negotiate and mediate in my own house and in life – every. single. day! This brings me to yesterday's photo shoot! I think I may have met my match in this very cute little kindergarten girl.
Initially, we had a tough time getting smiles from this little diva, so when all else fails, bribery(of someone else's kid) sounds like a good option. I said to her, "I have an idea; if you work with me, chat with me and give me just a few smiles, we can go for ice cream or cupcakes. When little Ms. "S" for Sassy responded by saying, "I have an idea. You play this game with me and then – I'll smile for you," I knew that I'd have to dust off the old book of mediation techniques. With her mom's marshmallows and my suggestion that it might be better if I come another day(reverse psychology:), Little Ms. "S" decided to take it easy on me. I'm sure glad she did! I managed to get some great shots and even managed to sneak in a few of her brother, who is quite the middle school catch!:)
Enjoy this adorable little girl and her handsome brother!
